    Description

Offered are these two vintage New York Playbill theater programs from the 1930s. Included are:
    1) The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company performances of Gilbert & Sullivan operas at the Martin Beck Theatre, beginning December 10, 1934, including The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe and The Gondoliers. The program contains lots of ads for local restaurants, night clubs and stores as well as national ads for the products of the day. Ad highlights include Sally Rand and her "famous bubble dance" at the Paradise cabaret restaurant and Rudy Vallee and his orchestra at the Hollywood. This may be a rare find; at the time of original listing I could not find another copy for sale on eBay.
    2) Frank Fay's vaudeville act at the Forty-Fourth Street Theatre, beginning March 6, 1939. Several other acts are also featured. The program contains numerous national ads for the products of the day and a few local ads.
Both programs are in very good condition, with no torn, missing or loose pages. The pages have browned slightly and there are a few spots, etc. Both have been folded in half vertically so there is a crease, more pronounced in the 44th St. one.
