LATE 1940's RANDALL-Made FIGHTING KNIFE 1-Pin Stag w/HEISER Sheath + MYSTERY

Stag Handle with Single Pin <> 5-7/8" Blade
Notes:
Late forties or early fifties.

VG condition, no abuse; short checks in the Stag handle, and a small chip at the margin of the guard spacers,
with a 5/8" chip on the butt. Showing the usual carbon spots and long cleaning marks,
the wonderful flat-ground blade retains its shape;  Heiser sheath has a polished patina, excellent stitching,
and United Carr tan snap buttons. The upper strap shows some dry cracks across the width.
The silver 1st Place Medal was found as shown in the pics, how it is associated with the original customer
or -heir? is unknown. Custom-registered Name is factory-stamped on the back side of the blade.

introduction
dates of features seen on this knife have been kindly suggested by a Knife man,
in his study of info in the definitive book on Randall-Made Knives by Sheldon & Edna Wickersham (2007):
1.
The tan buttons date to late 1947- early 1948.
2.
The colored spacers in the handle, 1948.
3.
The Nickel silver guard, 1948.
4.
The choil of the blade, and the slightly shortened guard,
are typical of the late 1940's~early 1950's knives.
5.
The strengthening rivets at the sheath corners,
were dropped in 1949, and are not present on the Sheath.

As for the Mystery connecting the the Knife and Sheath, incised "1940" I.D. on the leather, Silver Medal
and the factory-engraved monogram on the Knife? All we can say is that the U.S. Army's 313th
Infantry Division
actually
was
in Czechoslovakia on July 4, 1945!
